Yesterday, I mentioned how difficult it really is for me capture the beauty of Hampi in words, and this struggle also spills over to actually visiting places around Hampi as well.

Shrouded with mythology and so much history to take in, very few people venture out of the confines of this weekend getaway. But luckily for me, the rickshaw wala who brought me back from the famous Hanuman temple suggested that my friend and I go witness the sunset at the Sanapur lake, Sanapur being a small hamlet just 4 Kms away from Hampi. I looked at Vinisha (the said friend) and before we could make up our minds we heard a familiar voice call out to us.

We saw Rahul on his moped (a sweet guy we befriended the previous evening) going towards the lake. He insisted that we go too, and boy were we glad we gave in!

The lake is a picturesque view; flanked by boulders on all sides and with the sun setting in the background. We met some more people there, it was a mix bag of Indian, French and American group. We instantly gt along well. We actually bonded over Rahul trying to explain to the American woman, Ada, what her name means in Hindi and her obsession with my eyebrows (Oh my god, how are they so beautiful and thick!).

After a bit of chit chat, we just sat there. I have never seen a group of people sit so quietly for such a long time. But with a view like this, who could blame us!

This lake is truly worth the detour from the otherwise crowed Hampi, and for people who love to swim…well Rahul can be the best person to tell you how it feels…
